Thanks Paul,

This was due to an updated ax_python_devel.m4 which reset configure to
the default behavior of installing in the platform-independent directory.

I have created a new release candidate with only this fixed (and a
typo).  Because nothing else is touched, if this works for Paul, I'd
like to continue doing the actual release coming Friday the 10th.
