Behavior of Unbound outgoing-interface

Hello all,

The Unbound documentation for outgoing-interface says "If none are given
the default  (all)  is  used". How does Unbound pick which interface to go
out of at this point? I thought it may pick a random interface, but that
seems to only happen when multiple outgoing-interface values are given.

Any insight would be appreciated.
