It's not supposed to matter.  I make all my RR's lower case.  I can query
them in any case and get the data.  But it does seem to return things in
the case I query:

dig +norec @209.102.192.74 ipal.net. a
dig +norec @209.102.192.74 IpAl.NeT. a
dig +norec @209.102.192.74 IPAL.NET. a
